Kavan

Kavan is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language romantic thriller film directed by K. V. Anand written with Subha and produced by AGS Entertainment. The film stars Vijay Sethupathi and T. Rajendar in lead roles with Madonna Sebastian, Vikranth, Jagan and Akashdeep Saighal in pivotal roles. The film, which has a soundtrack and score composed by Hiphop Tamizha, began production in July 2016.

Production

Development

After the release of Anegan director K. V. Anand expressed his desire to commence his next film which is said to be on the lines of the directors own Ko. The project was confirmed on 22 March 2016, with Vijay Sethupathi has joined hands with popular director KV Anand for a mega budget film.

Casting

The film stars filmmaker-actor TR Rajendar in an important role, who is making a comeback as an actor after a gap of eight years since it has been a while since he acted in a full-fledged role. Madonna Sebastian will be seen as the romantic interest of Vijay Sethupathi in the film and Hiphop Tamizha has been roped in to compose music. Also actor Akashdeep Saighal who was last seen in Ayan was signed on to play a key role in the film he joined the filming from August 2016.

Filming

The first schedule commenced on 11 July 2016. It is also reveled that, the script is co-written by Kabilan Vairamuthu along with KV Anand’s favorite duo, Suresh and Balakrishnan. As of 29 August 2016, it is said to be 40% complete from around 30 days of shoot. The second schedule has started recently in Chennai and the team has been canning a few scenes in T.Nagar, Chennai which involves Vijay Sethupathi and T Rajendar. Madonna Sebastian will also be a part of this schedule and she is expected to join the sets very soon. This schedule is likely to go on for another 2 weeks and the makers are planning to complete the entire shoot portion by the month of October but since they need to complete over 50% of the film, the possibility of wrapping the shoot portion before October is less, adds source. The title Kavan was revealed on 19 October 2016.

KV Anand’s Kavan’s Happy New Year promo video starring Vijay Sethupathi and T.Rajendar had released recently. Now the Happy New Year song sung by T.Rajendar, Hiphop Tamizha and Madonna Sebastian has been released as a single.

The time of the song’s release is perfect with New Year’s eve round the corner. Hiphop Tamizha has utilized T.Rajendar’s energy level to a great extent in this song which happens to be the backbone of this folk number with a touch of trance and EDM beats playing along parallelly.

The lyrics are quite catchy throughout the track. Madonna Sebastian’s sweet voice towards the end proves to be nectar. The talented actress cum singer is a right addition to this high energy Happy New Year single. The song has a lot of auto-tuned voices which is typical of most of Hiphop Tamizha’s songs.

On the whole, this one, as the name suggests, is for a Happy New Year and justifies its tag and adds to the promotion of Kavan which is soon to release. Hiphop Tamizha continues to be the trendy, high octane music director that he has turned out to become and the track is quite impressive with a lot of adrenaline pumped in by T.Rajendar’s voice.

Thenmerku paruvakatru

Thenmerku Paruvakatru (English: Southwest Monsoon) is a 2010 Tamil drama film written and directed by Seenu Ramasamy and produced by Shibu Issac. It stars Saranya Ponvannan, in her 100th film, Vijay Sethupathi and Vasundhra in the lead roles. It released on 24 December 2010.

The film received mixed reviews, but was eventually featured at the 58th National Film Awards ceremony, where it was named the Best Feature Film in Tamil while Saranya Ponvannan and lyricist Vairamuthu were awarded the Best Actress and Best Lyricist prizes, respectively.

Set on the backdrop of Theni, the story is about Murugaiyan (Vijay Sethupathi) who is a goat shepherd and he has a loving mother Veerayi(Saranya Ponvannan). She is a widow and struggles hard to raise Murugan and has an overflowing affection for him. Meanwhile, there is a gang which attacks the villagers at night and steal their goats. Murugan along with his group manages to catch one of the members in an attack and discover that it is a girl. Her name is Pechi (Vasundhra Chiyertra) and her family steals goat for livelihood. While Murugan develops feelings for her, Pechi's family is known to be quite dangerous. Veerayi comes to know this and asked her son (Murugan) to marry a girl of her choice. He refuses to accept her wish. Complication arise between them. An old lady of her house tells Veerayi to let her son to marry the girl he loves. A possessive widow tells how her husband was killed to that old lady. Her husband was killed by a group of thieves.The head of the gang is none other than the father of the girl whom her son loves.

The Hindu wrote, "Thenmerku Paruvakkaatru with its mother sentiment makes a mark among films with rural themes". Sify called the film "OK" and wrote, "It is made like a 70’s tear jerker with the central character being the all sacrificing mother".The New Indian Express wrote, "A film that has worked out well in all departments, Thenmerku Paruvakaatru is worth a watch. Behindwoods gave 1 out of 5 stars and wrote, "While the opening scene makes one sit up and take notice, the movie pales into insignificance soon after with nothing much to hold the viewer’s interest. Essentially, Thenmerkku Paruvakatru is a regular village drama and can easily be written down as one of those small timers aspiring to make a fast buck or two".
