Mellisai is an Tamil film directed by Ranjith, an associate of director Ramand and produced under Rebel Studio Productions. Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie feature in the leading roles.
The actor chose to postpone some of his other projects in order to complete Mellisai, describing it as a thriller film. Gayathrie was signed on to play a violin teacher in the film, marking her third film with Vijay Sethupathi Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (2012) and Rummy (2014), and to practice for her character she began to learn the instrument part-time.
The film features music by Sam C. S. and cinematography by Dinesh Krishnan.
